Revolutionary Electric Propulsion | A-Pod Products
The A-Pod results in lower fuel consumption (up to 30%) and exhaust emissions. AAA’s rotating versions come in 360° endless or 2×110° degrees and eliminate the need for conventional propeller shaft and rudders. In addition, all of AAA’s A-Pod systems have a minimum of rotating parts and work with forced oil lubrication, which instantly results in low maintenance costs. Also available as transverse tunnel thruster (A-Pod TT).
AAA’s patented and compact A-Pod PG is the first electrically driven propulsion system with an integrated electric motor, hollow drive shaft and planetary gearbox. The extended propeller shaft runs through the whole POD housing.

V-Pod
Revolutionary Compact Pod Design with integrated PM-motor
AAA’s patented hollow shaft drives a planetary gearbox that, in turn, drives a propeller shaft that extends through the entire POD housing.
Due to the reduction ratio of the planetary gearbox, the propeller will always run at its most economical speed, resulting in optimal performance in terms of efficiency and thrust.
The V-Pod is available in a range from 330kW up to 2500kW, either with open propeller or in a nozzle.

Long ‘flexible’ propeller shaft
The long propeller shaft is perfect to absorb any shock load coming from the propeller. It has a low bending moment and can be easily replaced.
Integrated electric motor
Integrated high speed permanent magnet electric motor. Low in weight, high efficiency and very compact.
Planetary reduction gear
Robust planetary gear reduction for optimum propeller speed in any application.
Double sealing arrangement
Double mechanical seal construction with cofferdam. Oil/water leakage is being drawn inside, so no leakage to the surface water.
Z-drive
Superior manoeuvring under all conditions
AAA’s patented separate gear shaft allows for constant gear play under any condition.
As a result, fuel efficiency is majorly improved, trip times become quicker due to increased manoeuvrability, and maintenance downtime gets decreased when compared to traditional shaft and rudder installations.
The Z-drive thrusters are available in a range from 400kW up to 2400kW.

Separate gear shaft
The gearwheel is mounted on a separate gear shaft and not effected by bending of the propeller shaft and thus under any load the backlash is constant.
Pinion shaft cartridge
The pinion gear is pre-mounted in a catridge with top and bottom bearings around the gear.

Transverse Thrusters

Besides steel executions AAA offer up to 300kW fully aluminium thrusters (gearbox & tunnel).

The Transverse Thrusters unique properties
FP Transverse Thrusters are used on ships with sufficient draft to guarantee proper functioning. The distance measured from the waterline in the lightest seagoing conditions to the centre of the tunnel should be about 1 to 1.5 times the diameter of the tunnel.
FP series – up to 1060kW
Our FP thruster, the tunnel thruster with a fixed-pitch propeller, is in theory suitable for all types of vessels. FPs are primarily used in combiniation with variable shaft/propeller speed and reversible rotational direction.
CP series – up to 1000kW
AAA Propulsion’s CP thruster, the tunnel thruster with a fixed-pitch propeller, is in theory suitable for all types of vessels. CP’s are primarily used in combination with variable shaft/propeller speed and reversible rotational direction.
